This is a massive thank you to each and every one of you that are listening to this episode and everyone who's contributed to this episode, because we've just passed a wonderful milestone, which is 10 episodes. And now, before you go yeah, 10 episodes, okay, cool, all right, maybe a bit early to pop the champagne. To pop the champagne research done by Amplify Media in 2022 found that only 7% of podcasts have 10 or more episodes and have released one in the last month. So an active podcast. So that's us, and that's worth celebrating, I think. So, thank you all, and I want to thank you because you've helped this podcast to reach 16 countries in six months, and that's incredible, I think, in terms of every listen that you've done, every person you've chatted to the podcast, about, every share that you've done, every time you've just gotten back in to go what's coming up next? Or following the podcast. All of that has been helpful and all of that is incredibly meaningful, because the whole reason for this podcast is to inspire people that are in leadership roles or maybe want to have a bigger impact, but aren't quite sure or confident enough to do that, to realize that you can, and to realize that you can do that in a way that is so incredibly you and that you don't have to follow the mainstream ways and the traditional ways that we get taught to lead and what that looks like. And when you unlock your inner strengths and what makes you unique and wonderful and you bring that to the forefront with confidence, and you bring that to the forefront with confidence, incredible things can happen. If I can make one leader or one person out there take an action or think differently or say something differently, or not say something or do something that has a positive impact on someone, that makes someone empowered, that maybe stops a toxic situation from occurring, that lifts someone up and lights them up and steers them closer to their purpose in life and their ability to make their own incredible impact, then this is all worth it. So thank you for supporting me on this journey and thank you to all my wonderful clients as well. Each and every one of you is so inspiring in what you do and what you put into practice. I love working with you and I look forward to continuing to work with you, and this has just been a wonderful journey and I'm so grateful for all of the support that you have given to this podcast.
Jolynne Rydz:So this episode is about being pulled by purpose, because when I came across these statistics, there was actually some really interesting things that came to my mind. Firstly, the second statistic that I'm going to share is that 47% of podcasts have three or less episodes. Now there's 4.4 million podcasts out there, so not just episodes, podcast titles, the whole podcast 4.4 million of them out in the world. So that means, you know, close to 2 million of those have three or less episodes, and I feel like this really paints a picture of maybe something that our society is doing without us even realizing.
Jolynne Rydz:Because have you ever felt like things are just taking too long to come to fruition? Maybe you're getting frustrated with the pace of your career or a project that you're working on, and I don't think that's uncommon because we've been conditioned to give up really quickly If you think about our society and the pace things move at. We've got instant access to information through Google, through chat, gpt, we've got streaming services for TV and movies, we can fast forward through ads, so we try and shove as much as we can into the days we have in our life and then feel like, why aren't we getting where we want to go? And I think that's because it's not about how much you do, it's about why you do it. Have you ever felt like things are just too hard, like you start something and then go oh my goodness, I'm so overwhelmed now because I thought I was just doing a podcast, but now there's these 10 other things I need to do. I need to work out what the topic is. I need to structure it in a way so I'm not rambling. I need to connect with guests and find them and set up a time with them when I can record without children screaming in the background or the garbage truck going by, which you probably heard in a couple of episodes has happened. So I've learned don't record on a Monday.
Jolynne Rydz:The technology I had one episode in this season that we actually had three separate attempts to put into practice because we just encountered tech challenges. The editing that goes in even though this is basically straight run conversations with minimal editing, there is still some editing that's involved, just so it's not boring for you as a listener, and then publishing it. So there's a whole lot of effort that can go into something and when you start a project, sometimes you don't always know what that is. You don't understand the effort that's needed, and it can be easy to back away and step out. So what I found, though, is that when those things happen so what I found, though, is that, when those things happen, being pulled by purpose is incredibly powerful to give you the energy and the motivation to keep going.
Jolynne Rydz:Angela Duckworth if you haven't come across her, look her up. She's incredible, and she's written a book called Grit, and she did a study that looked at what are the things that make the difference between someone doing average and someone just smashing things out of the park and doing really well, and it wasn't the natural talent that mattered. Mattered, it was people's ability to stick at something and get up once they've fallen down, to hit those challenges and dig deep and realize internally for themselves that they had the strength and the skills to get through whatever this challenge was that they're facing, and so I wanted to bring this topic to you pulled by purpose, because I think, in any career or business or area of life, we're going to encounter challenges, and we're going to encounter times where we want to give up or where we want to listen to the people that say no. I don't think that's a good idea to do the podcast, which I did encounter, that had to do to do the podcast which I did encounter. That or the people that doubt you. Or the people or your own self-talk about.
Jolynne Rydz:Who do you think you are? Again, real thought that went through my head. Who do you think you are to share? Have a podcast, you know what value is that going to add into the world? And to push past those things and then realize that no, actually people are listening, people are getting value, people are taking action and the ripple impact that can have. So, even if you walk away with one thing from today's episode, I want you to walk away with the thought that you can make a difference and when you're pulled by purpose, that absolutely amplifies your ability to stick in there with grit and go make something really cool happen. So three ways that you can tap into this power of being pulled by purpose is to ask yourself what's your why? Like what is actually your purpose and define that what's the big picture? Like what is actually your purpose and define that what's the big picture and how does it impact people outside of yourself. Because when we focus on ourselves, just ourselves, that's when the ego can come to play. That's when the self-doubt can come in. That's when you can maybe make decisions that aren't in the best interest of the listeners or the broader audience that you're trying to reach, or your people, your teams, your clients. So what is your why and what's the impact For me?
Jolynne Rydz:For this podcast, I want to inspire people to embrace their whole selves, to basically love themselves, who they are, and know that that is their strength, and be able to unpack that in great detail and use it intentionally to lift the people up that surround them, to create environments where people thrive, because there's so many hours in a day that we spend at work or doing things like work, even if that's care for family members or people in the community. All of these things, all of these efforts, are so much more powerful when they have a meaning and a purpose and an impact that goes beyond maybe getting your paycheck at the end of the week. So I want everyone to experience what it's like to tap into that passion and thrive as themselves, and my hope is that this podcast is part of how I bring this into the world. So the second thing that you can do to be pulled by purpose is to collaborate, because if you're doing it on your own that self-talk can be so debilitating. You can get stuck in analysis, paralysis and not do anything. But when you have a commitment to someone, when you have accountability to show up for a meeting, when you have a obligation to do your bit, one, it's heaps more fun. And two, you learn so much along the way. And three, it makes it easier to commit to someone else than it is to yourself sometimes. I think that's why things like bootcamp and fitness classes do so well is because you're showing up and it's not just you going. I want to go for a solo run because it's way easier to just snuggle back into bed and say, no, I don't want to run today. But if people are expecting you in that class cause you go most weeks, then you're probably going to get up and go to that class. So it's so much more fun and powerful doing it with people and shout out to all of my wonderful guests so far You're all incredible in each and every way and you all bring an incredible insight and perspective on leadership and life and being your own magnetic self. So thank you for sharing in this podcast with me.
Jolynne Rydz:Now the third way that you can be pulled by purpose is to just have fun. Right, when things are fun, you have the energy to keep going. When things are fun, you have the energy to go. Okay, that challenge sucked, but we can get through this and we'll still make a difference. And so tap into the things that are fun.
Jolynne Rydz:If you're feeling like you don't have fun in your work or your career or your business at the moment, maybe even in your family, how can you bring that in? What's one small thing that you can do to have more fun? I trust that you found this episode incredibly useful and I can't wait to hear what resonated. What you're implementing because always remember you, putting this into practice is what is absolutely key to making a difference and thank you once again to each and every one of you listening, because it's you who has gotten this podcast out there and across 16 countries, which I still can't believe.
Jolynne Rydz:I'm still like a bit mind blown by that. So thank you so much. It's incredibly meaningful and you are a part of this purpose. So thank you so much for being pulled by my purpose and I can't wait to hear what yours is so I can cheer you on and be a part of your purpose as well, and bringing that to life, because really that's where the fun at. I get so much joy from seeing people light up, do what they're absolutely made to do in this world because they love it and they're good at it and they've worked at it, and that connect with people and make a difference. It's such a brilliant feeling. That's why I do what I do. So looking forward to walking this path with you.
